2. John Jarvis (2^nd)

I have been unable to find a birth entry for John, son of John and Mary, in Thanet, but I do know he died in 1722/23, and was buried at Birchington on 6^th February 1722/23.

On the 20^th December 1698 John and his brother Daniel had a formal document drawn up regarding the inheritance they had jointly received from their father, it shows how they divided the property between them: -

By indenture of this date between John Jarvis of Birchington in Thanet, yeoman of the one part and Daniel Jarvis of Birchington, yeoman, of the other part (sons and devisees of said John Jarvis the Testator) reciting said devise and an agreement to make partition.  It was agreed the said John Jarvis party to the now abstracted Deed should hold to him and his heirs in severalty for ever, the west end of said messuage, containing four rooms, with the south end of the said barn so far as the same was then set out by Mark Hones, with the free use of a way to and from the same.  And also that part of the said one acre and a half of arable land as was then set out by Mark Hones.  And all that piece or parcel of land containing three roods more or less which was then abutting to the lands of the Lady Powell east and north, and to the lands of Robert Lovewell west, and to the lands of John Bridges south, for his full moiety of said messuage lands and premises.

And that the said Daniel Jarvis should hold unto him and his heirs in severalty for ever, the east end of the said messuage containing two rooms, being the kitchen and chamber over it, with the oven and well to the said messuage belonging.  Together with the north end of the said barn so far as to the usual threshing floor thereof.  And the said stable and yard to the said stable belonging, and that part of the said garden which is lying north of the said messuage, so far as was set out by Mark Hones.  And also all that piece or parcel of land containing half an acre which was then abutting to the lands of John Bridges east south and west, and to the lands of the heirs of John Laming north.  And also that small piece of land containing one rood more or less, abutting the lands of Lady Powell east, and to land of the heirs of John Laming south and to the land of John Bridges west and to the sea side north, for his full moiety of said messuage lands and premises, and the flower (flour) of the said barn was agreed to be used in common.

Duly executed and attested.
20^th December 1698.
Bond from said last mentioned John Jarvis to said Daniel Jarvis in £80 to perform the covenants contained in the last abstracted deed.

John Jarvis (2^nd) died a bachelor, and his brother Daniel having predeceased him he left his property to his nephew John (3^rd), as follows: -

He gives and devises unto his kinsman John Jarvis of Birchington, carpenter, who was his nephew and father to the future possessors, all that his tenement part of the barn with all the lands and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, situate, lying and being in the Parish of Birchington aforesaid in the said island then in his own occupation and all other his lands and tenements aforesaid and to his heirs for ever.
